Nocturne, currently in prototype phase, represents a creative risk for Gathering Studio—an intimate narrative adventure that prioritizes storytelling over traditional gameplay loops. Today, we're sharing our first detailed look at what makes this project special.
The Premise
Set in a neon-noir city where memories can be extracted, bought, and sold, Nocturne follows a jazz musician who discovers that her performances are literally rewriting the past. Every song played changes someone's history—including her own.
We're exploring what happens when art becomes dangerous. When a melody can erase a childhood or rewrite a war.
Reactive Soundtrack
The prototype's most innovative feature is its reactive soundtrack, which adapts both composition and instrumentation based on player choices. A single playthrough contains over three hours of original music, with branches that respond to emotional context and narrative divergence.
Development Status
Currently in vertical slice phase with a core team of 14 developers, Nocturne is testing whether this deeply personal approach can find an audience alongside our larger productions. Feedback from playtesters has been overwhelmingly positive, particularly regarding the companion-driven puzzle sequences.
- 3+ hours of adaptive original music
- Branching narrative with 8+ endings
- Companion-driven puzzle system
